Smart Controls Savings Calculator
Estimate how much occupancy sensing, daylight dimming and scheduling can trim your lighting energy and costs.
Annual Energy & Cost
Savings
- — total reduction
- — kWh saved per year
- — £ saved per year
- — kg CO₂e avoided per year
Formulae: Baseline kWh = Area × LPD × Hours ÷ 1000. Combined reduction = 1 − (1−Occ)·(1−Day)·(1−Sched). These are estimates; we verify set-points on site with commissioning and lux checks.
FAQ’s
Here’s a quick look at the assumptions behind your results—how we calculate energy use, costs, CO₂, and simple payback.
How does the calculator work?
We estimate baseline energy as Area × Lighting Power Density (W/ft²) × Operating Hours ÷ 1000. Savings come from a multiplicative blend of your chosen reductions (occupancy, daylight, scheduling): 1 − (1−Occ)·(1−Day)·(1−Sched). Costs use your £/kWh, and CO₂ is based on your kg/kWh factor. Results are directional for planning; we confirm on site with a survey, lux checks and commissioning.
What reduction percentages should I enter?
Typical planning values: Occupancy 15–35% (spaces not always used), Daylight 10–30% (near windows/skylights), Scheduling 5–15% (avoid out-of-hours burn). The tool combines them realistically (not additively), so total reductions usually land between 25–50% for most buildings. Use your best local knowledge—then ask us to validate on site.
Will smart controls work with my existing lighting?
In most cases, yes. Modern LED gear with 1–10V, DALI/DALI-2 or phase-dimmable drivers integrates well with sensors and time control. Older fluorescent or non-dimmable fittings may need driver swaps or selective luminaire upgrades. We’ll check compatibility, wiring routes and zoning during a free survey.
How accurate are payback/ROI estimates?
They’re solid for initial budgeting but depend on real usage, set-points, sensor placement,
daylight availability, and commissioning quality. Entering a realistic project cost (£/m²) improves the payback view.
After a site survey we’ll provide a fixed proposal with verified savings and a commissioning plan.
