UK compliance, lux levels & smart controls

LED warehouse lighting has to meet UK standards for safety and output. We design to BS EN 12464-1 and CIBSE/SLL guidance (e.g. LG1: Industrial), targeting 150–300 lux for bulk storage, 200–300 lux in racking aisles (with strong vertical illuminance for labels), and 300–500 lux for packing/inspection. Glare is controlled to UGR ≀ 22 with aisle-specific optics, while colour and clarity come from CRI 80 at 4000–5000 K. For efficiency, we specify DALI-2 or 0–10 V controls with PIR/microwave occupancy and daylight harvesting. We also deliver BS 5266 emergency lighting, signage and testing, plus photometric layouts, lux plots and an as-built handover pack, so you get consistent light, lower bills and minimal maintenance.

How many high-bays for a factory line?

Start with area Γ— target lux Γ· lumens per fitting, then refine for mounting height, reflectance, and task planes (benches vs floor). Mounting height, glare & optics (8–16 m guide)

At 8–10 m use 15–22k lm wide/medium beams; 10–12 m step to 22–30k lm; 12–16 m choose 30–40k lm with tighter beams or linear aisle optics between cranes/racking. Shield sources near operators, keep UGR in spec, and add PIR/microwave sensors with daylight harvesting. What lux level do factories need?

Will installation stop production?

We phase by bay/line, work at height with scissor/boom lifts, and schedule weekend or night changeovers. Most sites stay operational with minimal downtime.

Can LEDs handle heat, dust or oils?

Do I need CRI 90?
